The story of animal domestication began 10,000 years ago. From the agricultural society, humans started to perceive non-human animals as objects with various clear functions that serve humans’ needs. We have been breeding, modifying and utilizing animals to gratify our own desires. So, how do we categorize non-human animals and decide their life and death? “The Line We Draw for Them” is an immersive and interactive installation artwork that challenges our perceptions of morality, humanity and the boundaries between species. It crosses the disciplines of technology, philosophy, science and art. By addressing sentience, the shared capacity to experience feelings and sensations between two different animals, this immersive experience invites visitors to revisit their bias and the belief system that drew the line between livestock and pets. The interactive set-up also offers visitors an opportunity to become aware of their collective participation in animal suffering. The objective of this project is to raise thought-provoking discussions about the human-animal relationship without answering the questions by providing an indirect encounter experience of humans and non-human animals (digital form). Consequently, this project does not only prompt visitors to question their biases towards certain species, but also empower them to reconsider their daily consumptions that greatly determine the fate of millions of sentient beings
